
Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery is a vision correction procedure for patients with very high spectacle power (myopia) who cannot undergo LASIK. A specialized biocompatible lens is implanted inside the eye, working with the natural lens to correct vision. ICL provides excellent vision quality, preserves the cornea, and is reversible if needed — making it the preferred choice for high myopes with thin corneas.




Spectacle power between -3.00 D to -23.00 D (myopia) or up to +10.00 D (hyperopia)
Age between 21–45 years with stable power for at least 1 year
Adequate anterior chamber depth (≥ 2.8 mm)
Endothelial cell count above 2000 cells/mm²
Not suitable for LASIK due to thin corneas or high power
Motivated patient with realistic expectations

Comprehensive pre-operative evaluation: biometry, specular microscopy, anterior chamber depth, corneal topography
ICL power calculation based on eye measurements and spectacle power
Dilating eye drops and anesthetic drops are instilled
A micro-incision (approximately 3 mm) is made in the cornea
The folded ICL is inserted through the incision and positioned behind the iris
The ICL unfolds and is positioned in front of the natural lens
The incision is self-sealing — no stitches required
Surgery takes approximately 15–20 minutes per eye
Vision improves dramatically within 24 hours. Most patients can resume normal activities in 2–3 days. Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops are used for 4 weeks. Avoid rubbing the eye, swimming, and strenuous activity for 2 weeks. Follow-up at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, and 6 months is important.
